Dr Kshma Kulkarni from USA spent 5 months volunteering at Kiwoko Hospital earlier this year. Here she briefly reflects on her time at the hospital. Thank you, Dr Kshma, for helping and encouraging us during your time here!

Kiwoko Hospital is a place of love and healing. Through the International Family Medicine Fellowship, I spent January to June 2024 practicing medicine in this lovely community.

They have an extensive medical service with wards for male, female, paediatrics, maternity and NICU (neonatal ICU) as well as may specialty outpatient clinics, including diabetes and HIV, that serves a wide area of rural Uganda.

I was welcomed into a wonderful community of people. It was a beautiful exchange of ideas and collaboration, whether medical, or fun and games. They welcomed me like family and helped me grow both as a physician and within myself.

It was so lovely to be a part of this community and get to know so many wonderful people. I am so grateful to everyone at Kiwoko. You will remain forever in my heart.

Kshma.
