FAQ’s …

What can I expect from an elective at Kiwoko

Students are normally requested to complete a minimum of six weeks at Kiwoko Hospital.

During the course of their elective medical and nursing students rotate through the different clinical areas of the hospital spending a week on each. This includes medicine, surgery, paediatrics, maternity /NICU, Out–patients and community.

Medical students work alongside a doctor and are under the overall supervision of the Clinical Director. Nursing students work under the supervision of the ward in–charge (Matron) and their elective programme is coordinated by the Deputy Principal Nursing Officer.

Physiotherapy students are based in the Rehabilitation Department and provide intervention to patients referred from all clinical areas of the hospital as well as the opportunity to see the work the community. They work under the supervision of the Rehab Department In–Charge.

There are opportunities for students to get involved in other aspects of hospital life such as sports, games, Bible studies, ‘Sunday School’ for children, outreach visits with the hospital ‘Mission Team’ etc.

During their stay many students will also take the opportunity to go a way for a weekend to see and experience some of the beauty spots of Uganda.

Do I have to be a Christian?
The hospital welcomes all students regardless of faith background. However, all students are asked to respect the Christian ethos of the hospital and are expected to attend the daily morning prayers which mark the start of each working day.
