Hi! I’m a Singaporean junior doctor volunteering in Kiwoko Hospital as a Medical Officer. I’ve been here for 2 months and have 1 month left. Coming here for the 2nd time has been a great blessing and open door from God. Last year I was here as a post-student pre-houseman, but this time it’s been super exciting to get to work independently on wards meaning I can fill in gaps in the rota.
Getting used to healthcare here, after working in a shiny new tertiary hospital in the developed world, has been a real challenge. I am constantly humbled by simple things (simple to Ugandans) like worms which is amusing and actually needed.
Apart from medical work I also get the joy of serving in the music ministry in chapel, Monday-Friday. I’m so thankful for the chapel ministry, because it sets my heart and mind in the right posture to serve throughout the day. I get reminded to be intentional about how I work, with the broader perspective of God’s work in the world and in each of us.
I’m thankful for what God is doing in Kiwoko, and for the financial and prayerful support provided by Friends of Kiwoko Hospital for the hospital. I’m so blessed to be a part of this community!
