Christmas Gifts

Christmas is approaching: the winter chill is in the air and the shops are already full of decorations and presents. But this year, Kiwoko is partnering with CMS Ireland to encourage people to give more than gifts to friends and family.

This special gift card provide much needed support for the work of the hospital and will make a long–lasting impact to our work.

For example, £10 would give us enough money to build a water tank of 300 litres. The tank is built by: 

• Excavating a large hole in the ground. 
• Building a retaining wall to keep the water in and the soil out. 
• Building two internal extra support walls, to keep the walls secure when water levels are low and to support the ‘roof.’ 
• Putting a concrete slab on top (with a hatch so we can get in to clean/repair the tank.) 
• Adding a handpump on top so the water can be easily accessed. 
• Guttering/piping the roofwater into the tank. 
• Waiting for rain. 

We have a number of these tanks across the site. They are much cheaper for the capacity than overground tanks. As the staff and patient population has grown we appear to have exceeded our present water supply capacity again. Various people have helped donate them in the past – any Bangor Rotarians may recall raising money for this in 2008.
